Overview

ADA & Wayfinding Signs.
Made to be seen.

Good wayfinding is invisible: people find the room and never think about the sign. ADA signs add a legal layer, with rules for raised characters, Braille, contrast and mounting height. We print ADA signs in-house on our UV printer, with Grade 1, Grade 2 or California Grade 2 Braille, and we work from the sign schedule your architect or designer provides. Unisen Senior Living and Windsor at Celebration both include ADA signs we designed, produced and installed.

What to send us

A photo of the space or vehicle, rough measurements and your logo are enough to start. No artwork yet? We can design it.

Built for the setting.

Room identification signs

Under the ADA Standards, every sign that identifies a permanent room, from a restroom to a suite number, needs raised characters and Grade 2 Braille. We produce these plates in-house and match the face to your interior palette, so the required elements and your design share the same surface without compromise.

Directional and wayfinding systems

Directional signs, floor directories and wing markers tell people where to go next. They follow ADA rules for visual characters but do not need Braille. We plan them as one family with your room signs, using a single type style and color system, so a visitor can follow the building from the entrance to the last door.

Healthcare, senior living and hospitality

Hospitals, clinics, schools, hotels and senior communities rely on signs more than most buildings, and confusion there costs more. We work with architects and design firms on full sign schedules. Our Unisen Senior Living project shows a complete package: ADA room signs, directional signs, exterior signs and a monument sign.

Questions about
ADA & wayfinding signs.

Straight answers to the questions we hear before most projects. Anything else, call (407) 935-1876.

Do ADA signs need Braille?

Signs that identify a permanent room or space, such as restrooms, offices and room numbers, need raised characters and Grade 2 Braille under the 2010 ADA Standards. Directional and informational signs need readable visual characters but not Braille. We produce Grade 1, Grade 2 and California Grade 2 Braille, so each sign matches what your project specifies.

What is the difference between Grade 1 and Grade 2 Braille?

Grade 1 Braille spells every word letter by letter. Grade 2, also called contracted Braille, uses shorthand for common words and letter groups, and it is the grade the ADA requires on signs. California Grade 2 follows the California Building Code’s own Braille specifications for projects built there. Tell us which grade your drawings call for.

How high should ADA signs be mounted?

Under the 2010 ADA Standards, the raised characters on a room sign sit between 48 and 60 inches above the floor, measured to the baseline of the text, and the sign goes on the latch side of the door. Our crew installs to those measurements and points out any wall condition that calls for a different spot.

Do you make ADA signs for architects and designers?

Yes. Architects and design firms send us sign schedules and specifications, and we send back proofs for their approval before a single plate is printed. Because UV printing, cutting and Braille all happen in our Kissimmee shop, revisions stay in one place from the first proof to installation day.

Can ADA signs match our brand?

Yes, within the rules. The ADA sets requirements for character height, contrast, non-glare finishes and Braille, but leaves color, shape and materials largely open. We match room signs to your interior palette and logo, so a required plate still looks like part of the design instead of an afterthought.
